Five new features for Android 13

Android 13 : New Photo Caller

With the preview of developer Android 13, Google added a new photo selector that lets you share photos and videos with apps, while keeping other media files secure. Android already provides users with a document selection that allows users to share specific documents of any kind with an app, except for that application which requires permission to view all media files on the device. Google now expands this capability with a dedicated sense of choice of images and videos.

Apps will now be able to use image builder APIs to access shared photos and videos without the need for permission to view all media files on the device. In a blog post, Google noted that it will gradually release a photo editor for more Android users with Google Play system updates.

Android 13 New Wi-Fi permission

Android 13 also provides operating time permissions, called NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES, for applications that control device connections to nearby Wi-Fi access points. The latest Android OS has new Wi-Fi hotspot which further reduces the need for apps to have location permissions. Currently, location approval is required for applications that need to connect to nearby Wi-Fi devices but do not require device location.

Android 13 : App icons with theme

Preview of Android 13 also extends the Material You Dynamic color theme beyond Google apps in all app icons. Therefore, users will be able to customize the icons based on their background image and other theme preferences. Currently, this feature is only available on Pixel devices. However, Google is working with other device maker partners to deliver it to additional devices.

Android 13 : Language preferences per program

This is another great user-focused feature that Android 13 will offer. This will allow anyone to choose a different language from the default system language. "Apps can now call for a new platform API to set up or acquire a user's preferred language, which helps reduce boilerplate code and improve compliance when setting up an app's working language," said Google.

Android 13 : Quick Settings Placement API

In applications that provide custom tiles, Google makes it easy for users to find and add their own tiles to quick settings. The new system dialog allows anyone to add a tile in just one step, without leaving your app, instead of going to Quick Settings to add a tile. [lifestyle] [dreamgaadi]
